There were no guarantees history wouldn't repeat itself--and if theirs were truly the same world, then it seemed that was exactly what would happen. But that look on his face reminded her of her regrets at losing her magic when they gave up the blastia--she knew there was no other choice and she agreed it had to be done, but it was such a big part of her.

You know how I said that humans like me can't normally use magic either? We used to cast spells and things like that with special blastia, but those are gone now.
[She raised a hand and tapped her neck, where a golden necklace set with a small gem was clasped, looking for all the world like simple jewelry.]
About a day or so before I came to the City, I made this--a successful prototype for a new blastia to run on mana instead of aer. It's not perfect or anywhere near as powerful as the old ones, but it does let me cast spells, and it works in the City.
