[Poly Entry 24:] Confusing month

Invasion of the plants and now an abundance of loud music? This month certainly has been more confusing to say the least. I suppose devastating can well be added to that list. [sighs to Jennifer's spring cleaning and the destruction of precious books in the library.]

In either case, I'd like to hear what others think of these signs. The appearance of the sand and change in landscape. Has something like this happened before?

[ From his sleeve, he moved to toy with the blastia with fingers. This had been the point of the meeting, to explain his curse, but that didn't mean he had to jump in and explain right off the bat.

He corrected Klarth: ] This is to monitor its energy fluctuation; it can't control anything. Not yet, at any rate...

[ Allowing himself some deep breaths before he continued, he finally released the blastia bracelet and tugged his sleeve back up. Klarth was someone he shouldn't need to hesitate so much with. Honestly, out of everyone from outside of his world, Klarth was the easiest one to speak to. Secrets were just hard to break. ]

In my world, I received a cursed Rune over half a decade ago... It's powerful, but it's not something that acts purely on its bearer's wishes; it has its own evil will. [ And this is where his eyes drift down to the teacup again. ] It's that will that I want to control and suppress. It gains power by taking the souls of people I care for... It kills them.

[His eyes perked to hear the following.] Monitor? I see.

[He softened his own expression and allowed him to take his time, trying not to seem too invasive. Klarth recalled the hesitation in the past and could understand how uneasy it must be for him to open up. Selfishly enough, he couldn't help be curious of the situation and the mysteries of the other worlds as much as his own. But in truth... it was always best to be aware of everything around for his own safety and others.

When he finally continued on, Klarth attentively listened with interest. He let out a deep sigh as he pondered with a hand to his chin.]

That certainly is some curse. Can you think of anything that can possibly trigger this overtake?

No. [ Plain, simple, and automatic. He remembered explaining it to Rita, where his worries ended up sounding more paranoid than anything. And maybe they were to anyone but him.

Looking over to his hand, the words seemed more directed at the Rune than Klarth. ] It's just opportunistic, I guess...

Action;

[Nothing to go by, hm... Like a ticking time bomb. He too stared down at his hand in deep thought. Perhaps hearing its origins... There must have been a reason for him to be affected by such a curse.]

How and when did it happen?

[ Tyr assumes Klarth means when did it take people's lives, which makes Tyr's eyes narrow down at his hand. ] ...Before I came here, it had been over three years since anything happened... The way it happens... It varies.

[That was a little more information but he needed to really get down to the details to analyze the whole situation better. Klarth gave Tyr a moment before continuing on with his questioning, softly asking the next.]

Exactly how did you receive the Rune then and by whom or what? Was it by accident or...

[He trailed off so that perhaps the boy could fill in his thoughts or correct him.]

[ Even if his voice was softer and it was a bit more relaxing, thinking back to that time - and to the next time he saw Ted - was painful. The table between them seemed so much wider now. His throat dry, he took a drink and let some silence pass between them before answering. He still didn't meet Klarth's eyes. ]

My friend gave it to me to look after... And I promised him I would ensure it was safe. [ He lifts his eyes to look up at Klarth again. ] It's a burden, but not one I'll ever rid myself of completely.

[He remained focused, watching his reaction from one thought to another. When he finally heard it, his own eyes softened more as he met Tyr's sympathetically.

A friend... This was sounding more in depth than what he had imagined. There were even more questions floating in his mind. Why did his friend have it? Where did it come from? His curiosity grew further. He had to suppress some of that scholarly urge to ask. Not everything should be asked at once, especially seeing him like this.

Though there were certain ones that needed to be answered.]

Why is there a need to keep the Rune safe?

[ And Tyr could answer many of those questions, but he greatly appreciated he wasn't being asked. He steadied himself at Klarth's question, understanding that Klarth wasn't looking to cause any harm. And the colder look his eyes took wasn't directed at his friend, but the knowledge that his answer was true. ]

Because it's evil. [ He clenched his fist. ] I can't let someone evil take it. The power it has... It's something that could--would hurt people if the wrong person took it.

[As he had figured. It was unfortunate but every world seemed to have its evil. His expression grew as dark as Tyr's to the thought and sighed. He couldn't begin to imagine what would happen if it did fall into the wrong hands.]

Is there anyone in particular you're keeping it away from?

[Dhaos was able to come to this world... there was no telling when his might as well.]

[ He paused as he thought of it. Windy was dead - or she should be - but... Tyr shook his head. ]

I'm keeping it from anyone who would want to use its power now...

[ The fact there were and are cruel people in the City counts. ]

[The way Tyr put it, it sounded generalized verses pinpointing anyone specific. He gave a brief smile to that. At least they didn't need to worry there for the time being.]

Hm. I couldn't agree more.

[He stared at it longer before proposing the next.]

Is there no way of destroying it?

[ Tyr bit his lip a little. Gremio had thought of it, but... ]

I don't think so. I don't even think it would be safe to.

[ He looks at the back of his hand, lifting it a little. ] To destroy something with this much power... Who knows what that would take? What the consequences would be?

...My friend, for as long as he had it and for how miserable it made him, I'm sure he would have destroyed it if that was an option.

[It was true. There was no telling what consequences awaited and what would happen to the carrier, Tyr, himself. They had to keep that in mind. He also made a fair point.]

True enough... [Back to square one and he couldn't help but let out another defeated sigh.]

In either case, let's not give up yet. Perhaps there will be someone in the City who could assist us in finding out something more about this Rune. I'll see what I can find out as well.

[ Tyr nodded. ] I appreciate that...

[ He turned more serious, then, making sure Klarth wouldn't miss a word. ] Be careful with who you let know, though. No-one has found out without my telling them yet, and I don't want the information to leak freely...

[ Now he'll speak more softly. ] Nevertheless, it's more likely than not that someone here will know something and be able to take care of this.

[He returned the same look and tone.]

Of course. I'll consult you before proceeding with anything. I give you my word.

Let us hope that's the case. [He smiled.]

Thanks... I appreciate that...

My friend thought that there was a magician here who was experienced in curses who could help me, so... Maybe someone else can do something like that.

[ Though you know-- ] Do you know anything about blastia?

Magician? Haa... None that I could recall hearing of.

[His smile turned sheepish to that question.]

Blastias are an invention from Rita's world so, unfortunately, nothing beyond what she has shared with me thus far.

[He pulled out the one Rita lent him from his pouch and showed it to Tyr.]

They truly are magnificent and fascinating artifacts. There are a few different types if I'm not mistaken. This one in particular enhances the use of mana.

[ Tyr stared at the blastia Klarth pulled out. It was one of the first times he had seen a blastia. At least, with the name 'blastia' attached. He looked back up at Klarth when he explained some more. ]

I see...

So you don't know how to really...work with them?

[Ah, that jabbed him right in the gut, Tyr, but it was true. He gave a defeated sigh with a smile.]

Y-Yeah.. That's right.

[Though he had to wonder...]
